A World of Her Own

The story behind this work

In a world that seems to stand still for a moment, her gaze drifts towards something only she can see. Perhaps it is a memory, a quiet dream or a thought she would rather keep to herself.

Her posture breathes a restrained elegance, as if she has stepped straight out of a Jane Austen novel. The soft sepia and grey tones heighten the hushed, timeless atmosphere of the portrait.

What is going on in her mind? Is she longing for something beyond her reach, thinking back on what has been, or simply enjoying a moment to herself?

She does not give away her secret. And perhaps that is exactly what makes her so captivating: everyone who looks at her can discover their own story in her.
