The painter in the vase

The story behind this work

Three glass vases in the dark, each holding a small world of its own. A Frisian landscape is mirrored in the curve of the glass, and if you look closely, you can see me in the reflection, sitting behind my easel.

Painting glass is always a challenge in perspective for me. What you see depends on where you stand: take a few steps to the side and the image in the glass has already changed. The landscape comes from my own imagination.

And so this has become a painting about looking, and about what the glass gives back to you.
