The story behind this work
This portrait of a lady in traditional dress from the northern Veluwe was photographed by Ezra Böhm. I found her rather stern look intriguing. And the challenge lay in the lace collar and headscarf. In the photograph this lady is sitting in her home. I have painted her standing beside the Zuiderzee, to give the whole a greater sense of history.
